FAQs
Why are natural perfumes so expensive?
The finest and most expensive perfumes are made of absolute oils, which come from certain types of flowers.
While it takes 900kg of jasmine oil to produce a pound of oil, it takes 4.5 tons of rose petals to distill one pound of the highly coveted rose oil.
The materials used to create these, are more expensive. Many utilize beautiful and rare natural extracts that are costly and difficult to source. Some of these flowers only bloom one month a year. Others have to be picked before sunrise. Almost all are delicate and have to be produced into oil immediately. Rose oil (for example) is currently priced more than R3000 for 11 ml and the price is expected to rise 25% this year! Unlike the mainstream perfume industry-which spends more on advertising than on the actual perfume-natural perfumers spend most of their budget on obtaining these incredible botanicals.
Beware of fakes: If a perfume claims to be a rose perfume but is sold at your nearest shopping center, you can pretty much bet that there is little to no rose oil in it. Many cheap perfumes are made of synthetic fragrances created in labs to mimic the real thing.
Are your perfumes organic?
While we utilize many organic materials in our perfumes, they are not 100% organic. We source our botanical oils from many small and sometimes remote farmers who cannot afford organic certifications. We therefore create beautiful natural perfumes that may not be certified organic but are natural. After all our essences are extracted from real plants and flowers, carefully and lovingly cultivated for years in fields, where synthetic perfumes are made in laboratories to imitate natural fragrances.

We are not able to offer free samples of our perfumes at the moment, but do include free samples with your first order.
Why are some of the perfumes colored? Do you dye them?
We do not dye or color, mother nature does! Many natural essences are brightly colored, just as many flowers are brightly colored. When working with these colored botanicals, the perfume takes on its hue. If wearing a dark-colored perfume, we recommend spritzing before dressing.
What's the difference between natural perfume and perfume I buy at the mall?
"Other perfumes" are mass produced and include synthetic aroma chemicals. When these perfumes list notes of rose or sandalwood for example, they contain very little, or NO actual rose or sandalwood. These notes are created from synthetic aroma compounds, often from petrochemicals and can include phthalates.
Why are botanical perfumes almost as expensive as major synthetic brands?
The difference between natural perfumes and synthetic perfumes are the ingredients. Natural perfumes are made from natural flowers, resins (like vanilla), grasses (like lemongrass) and wood (like Cedar). The oils are extracted or distilled and are 100% natural. The plants are cultivated by farmers who plant the seeds, water and feed the plants and grow them until they are mature until they are harvested.
Synthetic fragrances are synthesized in laboratories, and artificially created using chemicals. Many “flower” fragrances do not even contain any real flowers. The ingredients may be petroleum based too. Many synthetic perfumes contain hormone stimulators, preservatives, and other chemicals that are absorbed by your skin. Some are carcinogenic.
